Design principles beyond basic temperature control
Pharmaceutical cold storage requires more than simply maintaining low temperatures. We plan sensor density, worst-case temperature mapping locations, and door interlock strategies at the earliest design stages to ensure full operational reliability and compliance readiness.
Where business continuity is critical, we offer redundant refrigeration systems, generator-backed electrical segregation, and automatic failover control strategies. Interior finishes are selected for hygienic cleanability, while coved junctions and flush detailing help minimize contamination and particle accumulation points.
Ultra-low temperature vaccine storage facilities operating between -60 °C and -80 °C receive additional engineering attention for compressor staging, oil management, system stability, and controlled warm-up behavior during defrost or maintenance procedures.
Validation and qualification support
We provide as-built documentation, sensor placement rationale, commissioning records, and supporting documentation compatible with validation master plans. Third-party temperature mapping services can also be coordinated where required.
To support future revalidation procedures, facilities can include accessible service panels and spare conduit routes for additional monitoring probes and instrumentation upgrades.
Information required to engineer your facility
- Room dimensions — Rack layouts, pallet capacities, personnel airlocks, product flow zones, and door airlock configurations.
- Target temperatures — Required operating temperature ranges, allowable excursion limits, and maximum acceptable out-of-range durations where defined.
- Product information — API storage versus finished pharmaceutical products, lot sizes, packaging formats, and anticipated door-opening frequency.
- Redundancy requirements — Required redundancy level such as N, N+1, or dual independent systems, including generator capacity and UPS coverage requirements.
- Regulatory requirements — Target regulatory markets including EU, US, or other international compliance standards to align documentation and validation scope.
Sharing URS documentation, warehouse SOPs, or process requirements allows us to translate operational needs into appropriate refrigeration redundancy, BMS point lists, monitoring architecture, and alarm management strategies.
